For this last day of World Series 1 at Trofeo Princesa Sofia in Palma, Ruggero Tita/ Caterina Banti (16 pts) majestically claimed the Nacra17 title and Medal Race. The Italian won 9 races out of 13. Their worst result being 3rd place… Behind them, Finnish Sinem Kurtbay/ Akseli Keskinen (56 pts) are solid 2nd and British John Gimson/ Anna Burnet (56 pts) finish 3rd.
It was the first-ever SSL 1000 event in mixed 470, and Jordi Xammar/ Nora Brugman may have become a new reference in this category. In ILCA6 (Women Laser), Canadian Sarah Douglas wins the category by a comfortable 31-point lead over British Hannah Snellgrove (59 pts). It is the best result for SSL Team Canada helmsman since her victory at the 2019 Pan American Games. Greek Vasileia Karachaliou finally finishes 3rd with 62 points.
Despite Matt Wearn‘s victory in ILCA7’s Medal Race, British Mickael Beckett gets the top spot for 6 points over the Aussie. German Philipp Buhl (68 pts) could not resist Wearn’s come back. He ends 3rd in front of Cypriot Pavlos Kontides (6th) and Tonci Stipanovic (7th).
Winning Medal Race was also not enough for Martine Grael/ Kahena Kunze. The Olympic Champions have to bow before Dutch World Champion Odile Van Aanholt paired up with Annette Duetz. The Dutch win by 10 points over the Brazilians. Italian Jana Germani/ Giorgia Bertuzzi finally get 3rd spot in front of Belgian Isaura Maenhaut/ Anouk Geurts for just 2 points.
In 49er, Erwan Fischer/ Clément Pequin (50 pts) “finished the job,” as they told StarSailors.com yesterday. It is the first victory in an SSL 1000 event for the French. Team USA Ian Barrows/ Hans Henken are 2nd (53 pts) and team Poland Mikołaj Staniul/ Jakub Sztorch, 3rd with 74 points.
